I’ve seen the technique work in the past were fans send items to a studio to get the point across that they want a show to be given a second chance. I think the most famous incident I know of was the fans of the show Jericho sent the studio hundreds of bags/cans/bottles of peanuts with messages of wanting a second season. And the ploy worked. Jericho was renewed for a second season.

Earlier today I joking said if it were summer I would say we send frisbees with “TRON Lives” written all over them. A friend then linked me to a page to make custom frisbees and this was born:

My goal is simple. Everyone find a frisbee, doesn’t matter what kind or color. Find a permanent marker, one that would stand out against whatever color the frisbee you find is, write the above on it and mail it to the Walt Disney Studio:

I am 200% in favour of confusing and inconveniencing people who dismiss the shows I enjoy. Like, I don’t think these things can do much (the Twin Peaks campaign was pretty big in its time, for example, and the show was still shelved) but the thought of this guy getting frisbies all over warms my terrible little heart. I just really dig this image. I’ve been watching Tron: Uprising, and so far I’ve been really enjoying it. It suffers from some predictable writing in places and makes use of some stereotypical characterizations, but it’s early days yet and I’m confident the show will find its groove. There’s a lot more to like than to dislike.

Gallium City, huh. I need, need to see Bismuth City now. Tell me it exists.

So, these are various colour & landscape guidelines for Uprising. The cartoon is beautiful and I will challenge any naysayer to an art theory duel. But there is one thing about the ‘toon that bothers me to hell and back, and it’s nothing to do with the plot or characterisation.

This is the art team. See if you can find a single chick in it. See if you can find a single woman in the entire major sixteen-strong writing & art crew. Now I love what these guys have done look-wise - and I am patient and open-minded with regards to the writing - but I cannot believe that among the million people in conceptart.org who could have created things just as pretty as what we see here there was not one, not one artist who was also not a dude.

I wouldn’t be linefacing as hard as I am if this kind of shit did not happen time and time again - or this would not be necessary. And god I wish I could be uncynical enough to wonder if the bonanza of testosterone going on here hasn’t got to do with the whole bullshit idea of marketing Uprising and all of XD specifically to boys.

So, you know. I love the cartoon and will continue to do so but man does this boil my piss.

It’s amazing how the same group of people that made this also came up with such shitty character designs. how.

Character designs are the work of Bob Valley. Do an image search for his stuff and you’ll see that the stretched-out proportions and angular features are a signature look.
